Staircare Stair Nosing Project

Cairns Convention Centre – Lend Lease

SC19B Photo Luminescent Carpet Stair Nosing

Situation: Cairns Convention Centre – Lend Lease.  Required photo luminescent glow in the dark stair nosing for carpet stairs that are fully compliant with Australian Standard.

The Task:  Cox Architecture – Brisbane approached Staircare with the task to design and supply a photo luminescent stair nosing for carpet tiles,  as there was no fully compliant glow in the dark carpet nosing available.

Staircare designed SC19B photo luminescent carpet stair nosing with particular attention to a high intensity 10mm wide glow in the dark strip in the front edge of the nosing profile.  Therefore, allowing the luminance contrasting anti slip strip to be set back a maximum of 15mm from the front of the noising to fully comply with this specific requirement of AS1428.1-2009, 11.1 stair construction item (f).

Staircare supplied 1900lm of SC19B photo luminescent stair nosing with SC12 clear anodised ripple trim anti slip insert; offering class P5 slip resistance.  SC19B forms part of the building way guidance system for compliance with NCC2016 EP 4.1 Visibility in an emergency

Certification:  Staircare SC19B photo luminescent glow in the dark stair nosing conforms with:

  • AS1428.1 – 2009 Design for access and mobility
  • AS4586 – 2013 Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian  surface materials
  • NCC 2016 EP 4.1 Visibility in an emergency.

Result: Master Floor and Maxwood Technology installed SC19B photo luminescent carpet nosing with end caps throughout this large complex to form a stylish, functioning part of the building way guidance system.
